As managing editor, Clarence leads Sixth City Magazine in narrating the chronicles of Black Cleveland, its historical significance, and the evolution of its present-day cultural renaissance. As a storyteller from East Cleveland, Clarence has a passion for justice and documenting the experiences of Black Clevelanders.

On May 30th, 2020, a George Floyd demonstration took place in Downtown Cleveland. In the wake of Derek Chauvin murdering George Floyd by kneeling on his back for eight minutes and 15 seconds, Clevelanders took to the streets in passion and protest. How often have you been gaslit regarding abolition? Social Media users will often guilt trip victims of police abuse with statements like “My uncle is a cop” or “I have family members who are cops”. They are implying that their proximity to a specific police officer somehow reduces the systemic issue plaguing the country to a few officers. After all; how could all police officers be “bad” when someone has a father who happens to be a cop?
